SOFA - the non-profit organization Society for All was founded in 2011, originally under the name ČOSIV (Czech Professional Society for Inclusive Education).
Project Objective: To create a series of six educational motion graphics videos using 2D illustrations, aimed at helping children in Czech schools understand and cope with traumatic experiences. These videos were designed to be both informative and engaging, ensuring that the sensitive content was presented in an age-appropriate and accessible manner.
In this recent project as the art director, I had the opportunity to work with an illustrator and an animator. I developed all the ideas and storyboards, handled the majority of the illustrations, and contributed to half of the animations. Their collaboration was invaluable in bringing my vision to life, allowing us to create a cohesive and engaging experience. Working as a team really enhanced the project, blending my concepts with their unique talents.
Process of work
Step 1. Storyboarding
Collaborated with educators and psychologists to understand the key messages and educational goals Developed detailed storyboards based on provided texts, ensuring clear and effective storytelling. Incorporated feedback from stakeholders to refine the narrative and visual flow.
The final videos were well-received by both educators and students, effectively conveying important information about traumatic experiences in a manner that was easy to understand and empathetic. This project not only showcased my skills in motion graphics and illustration but also highlighted my ability to handle sensitive topics with care and creativity.
Step 3. Animation
Animated each video, bringing the illustrations to life through smooth and engaging motion. Paid special attention to the pacing and transitions to maintain the children’s attention and understanding. Added subtle animations to emphasize key points and enhance the educational impact.
Step 2. Illustration
Designed and drew final illustrations, focusing on creating relatable and empathetic characters. Ensured the visual style was appealing to children, using bright colors and simple shapes. Created backgrounds and other visual elements to enhance the storytelling.
